Indecent Proposal (1993) - ★★★☆☆

I am reminded today of my first ever endeavor into the blogosphere. It was only just over two years ago, believe it or not, and it was an assignment for my English class—we had to blog about whatever novel it was we chose to read—my choice was Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge , and my blog was called Oops, I Sold My Wife!!  (and it still exists! ). Although my teacher may have taken issue with my prolific use of multi-media story-telling devices, I knew from the first moment that blogging was, in fact, right up my alley.  Something else that was right up my alley, of course, was the decades-long tragedy depicted in Hardy's novel, which begins with a shock many readers find themselves unprepared for—Michael Henchard, the eventual mayor of Casterbridge himself—sells his wife for five guineas (a pretty low price! In 2018, that was equivalent to only 700 US dollars). Of course, for our friend Henchard, this sets off a chain of unimaginable tragedies, and because the author...

Edtv (1999) - ★★★☆☆

I love friendship!!!!!!! I love it when people are friends!!! Whenever I come across a new set of friends, I filled with a sense of delight so large I dare not even put it into words. The friendship that has dominated most of my summer is that of Special Agent Dale Cooper and Sheriff Harry S. Truman from David Lynch's Twin Peaks .  Harry and Coop are a perfect example of everything a good pair of friends should strive to be. They love hanging out together and enjoy doing many activities with one another, from eating donuts, to drinking coffee, to solving murders, to entering evil zones.  Harry and Coop sharing a beautiful friendship moment!!! When I sat down to watch Edtv , the last thing I expected was that I would learn of another friendship as beautiful as the one shared by Harry and Dale. But expectations be damned! That's exactly what happened. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaaheuseygh met on the set of Edtv in 1999, and since then, they have been the best of friends, b...

Semi-Pro (2008) - ★☆☆☆☆

Hahahahahahahahaha what a funny movie. What I wouldn't give for Woody's patchwork denim jacket and white turtleneck combo.....

Friends With Benefits (2011) - ★☆☆☆☆

What if it was a rom-com. What if it but actually was making fun of rom-coms. What if it was still a rom-com though. What if the characters in the movie watched a rom-com that was bad and made fun of it. What if Justin Timberlake was in it. What if Woody Harrelson played a gay man. What if the movie was still homophobic. What if they talk about sex and say the fuck word. What if the characters were funny and kind of quirky but not too quirky. What if Mila Kunis was kind of awkward. What if there were flashmobs in it. What if Jessie Eisenberg was in it but only for one minute. What if they took off their pants at the restaurant. What if they rode on a boat. What if they sat on the Hollywood sign and then got on the news for that. What if the mom was Bad. What if the dad was Good. What if they say daddy issues. What if they talk about the internet. What if they work for GQ. What if they climb to the roof of a building. What if it's in New York City. What if Mila Kunis pretends not to...

Now You See Me 2 (2016) - ★★★★☆

So THIS is Harry Potter! For some reason, I always thought Harry Potter was a series of books seven volumes long, and was about wizards and elves and trolls and probably some other types, not magicians! I guess I was wrong, though, because the only things I do know for sure about Harry Potter is that Daniel Radcliffe is in it, and that it's about magic; both of those things are in Now You See Me 2 , so it must be Harry Potter! I have to be honest; I was pretty sure that Daniel Radcliffe played a character who was actually named Harry Potter, but maybe that's his character's nickname and I just missed that part of the movie. I think it's kind of odd that no one would have mentioned to me that Harry Potter actually takes place in the Now You See Me  universe, but again, that's probably my own fault for not paying enough attention. I just googled 'Harry Potter' and this guy came up... apparently he was in this movie? It must have been a really small part, becau...

Now You See Me (2013) - ★★★★☆

In third grade, I got invited to the birthday party of one of my classmates which inexplicably was held in the teachers' room at our elementary school. This birthday party was, and continues to be, my only experience with a live magician. I remember being pretty impressed! I (still) think it's pretty cool that magic literally does exist and that you can pay a man in a funny suit to perform it at your eighth birthday party. As far as non-live magic is concerned, I'm not sure if this counts, but I do have chronic heebie-jeebies from a certain knife eating (swallowing? I'm not sure what the term is) performance on America's Got Talent. I do not think that is a good kind of magic, if it's even considered magic at all. I'm also familiar with a certain famous card game which is concerned with magic. Not sure how this works. The magic in Now You See Me , is, of course, closest to the magic I witnessed at that third grade birthday party, which is to say it's pre...

Out of the Furnace (2013) - ★★☆☆☆

This movie taught me two things.  The first is what Christian Bale looks like.  He looks like this (at least in this movie. I'm pretty sure that other times he looks like batman). Second: There is a type of movie which I could only enjoy if the characters had Boston accents and if I was watching it in a dark movie theater with a box of peanut M&M's. Otherwise, it is impossible for me to be interested. Out of the Furnace is that kind of movie. I can't think of any others that fit this description, but I think they do exist. You'll just have to trust me on this one! One movie I can think of that was kind of like this, but that I did see in a dark movie theater with a box of peanut M&M's, and in which the characters did have Boston accents in, is  Manchester by the Sea , which is a movie I did enjoy, probably because of these specific circumstances. Anyway, even Woody's presence in Out of the Furnace wasn't enough to hold my attention here (even with ...

The Edge of Seventeen (2016) - ★★★★★

Believe it or not, The Edge of Seventeen  is the movie which struck the match that set the fire that became the Woody Harrelson Film Festival. It was a dark and stormy night in April, just a few weeks after I'd been forced to return home from school due to the impending threat of the corona virus, and I was, to say the least, feeling down in the dumps! Doing school online is not for me (surprising, isn't it? Considering how very much "for me" blogging is?), and I was lonely! What better to cheer me up, I thought, than a classic coming of age film starring one of my favorite actors? I'd seen The Edge of Seventeen  once already, so I knew that Woody's performance as a gruff history teacher with a hidden heart of gold was exactly what I needed to cheer me up.  My idea worked, and as the ending credits rolled, I found myself struck with an idea—here I was, drowning in spare time, with no friends, and school work that I absolutely under no circumstances wanted to d...

White Men Can't Jump (1992) - ★★★★☆

Have you ever thought that white men can not jump? Sidney (Wesley Snipes) from the 1992 film White Men Can't Jump  sure did. However, the white man, Billy (Woody Harrelson) soon proves Sidney wrong by jumping. This movie is good because it has basketball, Jeopardy!, and Woody Harrelson in it. The first reason this movie is good is because it has basketball in it. Basketball is a famous sports game invented in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts by Dr. James Naismith. In basketball, players compete to toss a large orange ball into a net. It is a good game because it is exciting, interesting, and fun. The characters in White Men Can't Jump  play basketball, which means the movie is also exciting, interesting, and fun. Dr. James Naismith and his famous basket ball. The next reason this movie is good is that it has Jeopardy! in it. Jeopardy! is a famous game show hosted by Alex Trebek. It is on channel 4 at 7:30 pm, right after Wheel of Fortune, which is often called "America...
